Some of the treasured options we have the privilege of teaching at GFT are the meanings and symbolism of different holidays that are celebrated by religions and cultures around the world. In this case, students literally had a “taste” of one of the Hindu religion’s celebrations, Diwali.
After reading various books on the Hindu holiday, students incorporated multiple modalities and subject areas to create a dish for the holiday: ladoo. We were thrilled to see a recipe for it in our social studies curriculum, Curiosity Chronicles! Miss Jennifer then took it one step further by using coconut cream to make it vegan and using just a touch of maple syrup to sweeten it up a bit.
We had a mixed reaction from the students once eating the actual treat, but it’s safe to say that it was an excellent day, indeed!
