What A Time to be Alive!

The last thirteen days have been a bit surreal.  The worldly pandemic and subsequent economic repercussions will certainly affect many businesses… small businesses like GFT and the ones that our GFT community members, myself included, are running as best they can under the current circumstances.

Governor Hogan’s address today moved the next potential date “back-to-school” as April 24th.  As much as we would love to have our students physically together again as soon as possible, it is not the socially responsible move right now… even though I am generally all about stretching the rules. 😉

Some good news is that our GFT elementary and middle schoolers will continue to virtually meet and be lead by the amazing Miss Jennifer on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00.  We will start each session with Poetry Corner and then introduce a new topic/skill/site for families to use on their time home.  If you’re part of our umbrella or watching us from the sidelines, please feel free to join in, too! Here is the link for all future meetings: https://zoom.us/j/432951482

Miss Julia had a meeting-of-the-minds with her students this week, and they collectively decided to meet virtually moving forward.   They will continue their integrated study of history and literature, as well as their presentations and biology studies. The topics they are covering are nothing short of remarkable, and we are fortunate to have her on our team.

We are working on options for tuition refunds and credits for these unprecedented times, while still servicing rent, insurance, and other outstanding payments.  Monthly invoices will be stalled, and I personally will do everything in my power to keep the resources coming and keep our vision of being an amazing alternative educational experience for families at the forefront of our decisions.  For those that paid up-front, we will work something out for you, as well.

For our umbrella members, we will still have spring portfolio reviews… they may just end up being virtual.  We will make that call closer to the date.

While I personally am relatively new to the homeschool circuit, I have been so humbled and in awe of those of you who have been doing this for quite some time now and have approached this by jumping head-first into helping those who are struggling to figure all this out.  Thank you for championing the idea that learning happens everywhere and that we’re all going to be alright… eventually. 🙂

If you have any questions about what is next for GFT, please feel free to reach out.  We are thinking of everyone during these trying times and look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Kristin
